To welcome forcibly displaced LGBTQIA asylum seekers refugees supporting them through sponsorship as they rebuild their lives building community through human connection and serving as advocates storytellers Communities of Care Refuge Americas Communities of Care program provides direct support to LGBTQIA asylum seekers including individuals in immigration detention In 2025 the program provided stipends and basic needs assistance coordinated referrals to legal housing and mental health services and supported individuals navigating the asylum process with dignity and care Nation of Welcome Storytelling Project Through the Nation of Welcome Storytelling Project Refuge America amplified the lived experiences of LGBTQIA asylum seekers and refugees Activities included exhibitions public storytelling panels and creative works designed to humanize migration build empathy and shift public understanding toward more welcoming policies
