THE ORGANIZATION'S PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO SUPPORT, ENCOURAGE AND ADVANCE A COMMUNITY BASED 4-H STEM EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE GREATER SEATTLE AREA-SKUNK WORKS ROBOTICS TEAM 1983. THE ROBOTICS TEAM FOCUSES ON DESIGNING, BUILDING AND OPERATING ROBOTS,PARTICIPATING IN LOCAL, REGIONAL AND NATIONAL FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITIONS,AS WELL AS COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS TO INTRODUCE ROBOTICS AND STEM TO YOUNGER STUDENTS IN THE COMMUNITY. IN THE PROCESS, THE PROGRAM BUILDS STUDENT SKILLS IN COMPUTER ASSISTED DESIGN, PROGRAMMING, ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING,COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND TEAMWORK. THE TEAM TYPICALLY CONSISTS OF ABOUT 30 STUDENTS,2 VOLUNTEER COACHES AND 15 VOLUNTEER MENTORS.THE BOOSTER CLUB'S PURPOSE IS TO FUND THE COSTS FOR STUDENT TRAVEL TO COMPETITIONS, STUDENT LODGING AND MEALS AT THE EVENTS, AND THE MATERIALS,TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGY NEEDED FOR BUILDING THE COMPETITION ROBOTS USED IN THESE ACTIVITIES.
