Mission
Formed in 1993, the Classical Arts Society of Houston is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and maintaining the rich heritage of the classical performing arts of India. In particular, the organization presents South Indian classical music (also called Carnatic music) typically up to 8 concerts by well-known visiting and diaspora artists from India, through the year. A music festival is held each year to commemorate a 18th century music composer named Sri Tyagaraja. Besides performing arts, educational talks, symposia and lecture demonstrations are also offered through the year by experts in the field. The programs are often targeted towards many youngsters in the Houston area students of Carnatic music.
