THE STANLY COMMUNITY COLLEGE LIBRARY WILL PARTNER TO OFFER A YEAR-LONG ZOOM COMMUNITY READ SERIES CALLED STANLY STRONGCRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS IN A POST-PANDEMIC WORLD. IT WOULD BE THE OBJECTIVE OF THE COMMUNITY READ TO SHARE STORIES FROM THE PANDEMIC AND USE THE LITERATURE AS A SPRINGBOARD FOR HEALING. ACCORDING TO THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AS OF MID-JULY, THE STANLY COUNTY COMMUNITY HAS REPORTED 12,676 CASES OF COVID-19 AND 138 DEATHS FROM THE VIRUS. WITH SUCH A LARGE NUMBER OF CASES OF THE VIRUS FOR THIS RURAL COUNTY, IT IS NOW TIME TO REFLECT ON HOW INDIVIDUALS HAVE BEEN AFFECTED. THE THREE PARTNER LIBRARIES WILL ENGAGE LOCAL LEADERS FROM THE COMMUNITY, SUCH AS THE DIRECTOR OF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT, TO JOIN IN ON THE BOOK DISCUSSIONS AND RELATE THE LITERATURE TO WHAT THE COMMUNITY HAS WITNESSED AND EXPERIENCED. THE FUNDS FROM THE GRANT WOULD SPECIFICALLY GO TOWARDS PURCHASING PRINT AND EBOOK/EAUDIOBOOK COPIES OF THE COMMUNITY READ TITLES.
