SERVICES ARE DELIVERED UNDER FOUR PILLARS OF SERVICE: WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT - STEPS PROVIDES JOB TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO CITIZENS LIVING WITH DISABILITIES, INDIVIDUALS WHO WANT TO EXIT THE WELFARE SYSTEM AND SENIOR CITIZENS LIVING BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL; ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - STEPS IS A MAJOR EMPLOYER IN OUR REGION AND IN ADDITION OPERATES TWO (2) COMMERCIAL LINES OF BUSINESS: SECURE DOCUMENT SHREDDING AND OPERATION OF A REGIONAL RECYCLING CENTER; HOUSING - STEPS PROVIDES SERVICES TO ALLEVIATE AND/OR PREVENT HOMELESSNESS AND SERVES AS A PARTNER TO DOMINION POWER IN THEIR ENERGYSHARE PROGRAM, MEETING HEATING AND COOLING NEEDS; EDUCATION - STEPS WORKS WITH STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES WHO ARE TRANSITIONING FROM THE PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM AND OPERATES HEAD START AND EARLY HEAD START SERVICES.
