Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads (YVCHR) engages youth in team-based service experiences that build life and work skills while inspiring a lifetime ethic of service. This is accomplished by providing youth with truly impactful volunteer experiences through a wide array of service opportunities that positively impact the community at large. Our programming provides social connectedness and a sense of belonging and purpose; youth also gain awareness of local needs while actively playing a role in creating communities defined by compassion, selflessness, and respect for others. Since youth volunteers are recruited from public, private, and homeschool populations, participants reflect the racial and socioeconomic diversity of the community. This rich mix of participants adds depth to each young person's service experience and enhances their cross-cultural competencies, teamwork skills, and civic responsibility.
