Mission

Ferre Institute, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting haelth and wellness using an inclusive and community-based approach. It was founded in 1974 to offer training in medical genetics. The programs of Ferre Institute, Inc. provide evidence-based information and education regarding inherited risk (genetics), environmental exposures, family history and aim to integrate advances in these areas into personal health management. Information is provided to the public through community lectures, educational resources, and several educational websites. Many of the websites invite the public to email questions to program staff for addditional information, referral and guidance. The Genetic Counseling Program provides individual risk assessment, education and decision making regarding genetic testing and genetic test result explanation in cooperation with referring physicians. Trained genetic counselors are availablle for consultation to physicians and other clinicians.
